Trick Question or is it?

So..... I thought about posting a trick question to test who was really reading the book and as much as I cracked myself up thinking about how evil I could be, I decided to be 'not so evil' and be nice.  it is SO evident who is reading and who is not - okay- I realize that is worse than evil, the awful guilt trip....  I know I have no life that allows for plenty of time for reading.

enough rambling.  How is everyone's progress going?  here is a new question:   what did you guys think of Kath's relationship with her husband Lee?  Is that something that you think women still put up with in today's time and to what extent?  would you tolerate this treatment of a relationship either with yourself or one of your good friends that you know?  what do you think that you might do about it?

Personally, I don't think that I could tolerate it and would have spoken up for myself long before getting to that point.  I think that with most guys, you can identify those signs pretty early on as it seems to be an issue of respect.  I don't know though, maybe coming from Kath's background of money and expectations, she was raised differently and didn't have any women in her life to model and expect respect from men.  She truly might have not seen anyone ever deal with it before.  I guess that times were a little bit different then.  I also would not tolerate any of that from any my friend's relationships and would at least point it out to them if they were not aware of themselves.  at least say something.

Discussion Question 2

A couple questions to talk about this week.

Have any of you attended or considered attended a women's rights demonstration? (are they even a big thing anymore?)

Who has ever watched the Miss America contest?

For me, I've never attended or even thought about a women's right demonstration in this day and age. and I always used to watch Miss America when I was little - I'll even catch it once and awhile just to see what the contestents look like (dresses, hair, makeup, talent). When I was little, I would usually pick out my favorite girl and kind of cheer her on throughout the program. I don't think that I ever remember wanting to be in those pageants, but fun to watch. I think that it was kind of interesting to read the evolution of the Wednesday Sisters over the years and their group watching the pageant. I think the author was trying to show that women have other interests and life and the evolution of this group to other things in life beyond just beauty - like writing or working which I am sure both were still pretty revolutionary during that era. Each of them had their own dreams that come out through the book and each them attending the demonstration I think was showing them wanting to begin living out those dreams. Thoughts?

Webcam Night Sunday & June Book

It sounds like this Sunday evening is the night for us all to connect on a good book and some wine. Should we say 7:30pm central time? I was thinking that we should just try to do all get together on the webcam like this at the end of each book/month to talk about it and wrap it up before our next month's pick.

June's Book - It's been decided! Our book for this next month will be 'The Wednesday Sisters' by Meg Waite Clayton, so get out or get online to purchase and we'll get it started on it June 1. If anyone is interested in discount coupons for borders/barnes&noble, let me know. I usually get them regularly through email.

Stay tuned.....

Heather is next up for the pick of June...Heather, do you have your pick yet?

Opinions or comments on the MAY book???

Also, who has a web cam as of yet? I would love to set up a wine/web cam night this week.
Who's in?

Depending on what page you are on....

in this book, you may think this book is a bit slow/boring. Let me tell you, I have one chapter left because I had an excrutiating long travel day yesterday so I spent my 3 hour lay over reading this book and trying not to laugh and snort out loud at the Miami Airport.
Although, I personally think this book started out slow and VERY depressing, it picks up and even June's awkward ways seem to be less self deprecating and more charming.
When you start reading about the trip to Vegas to see Wayne Newton, things start to get better and jucier. The end of Chapter 20 had me giggling so much that I had to put the book down bc I was that crazy girl at Gate 33. So i dont know if it was the nerves from hating to fly or the lack of sleep or the total boredom of traveling all day but the book definitley entertained me.

Here's another question, What do you think June looks like?
The only description I really remember of June is that she is a tad overweight (like 5-10lbs).
For some reason, I kind of picture her like Bridget Jones/rene zellewigger (sp?)

BTW, after I put the book away some random guy started a convo with me at the gate...the cutest medical student from Grenada....he was getting ready to take his boards in delaware in 8 weeks and then he was going to travel with "doctors without borders" and give medical care to ppl in 3rd world countries. WOW!
